One of the best things about mohair cinches is all the fun colors and styles that are available! Picking the right one for you and your horses needs can be tricky, so here's the breakdown.
Straight cinches:
Typically 17 strands but can be 19 strands for a wider cinch or 15 strands for a pony cinch. These typically come with a woven center bar. These cinches are extremely versatile and work well for trail riding, barrel racing, endurance, and pretty much anything you can think of!
Roper cinches:
Roper cinches come in 23, 25, or 27 strands and have a flaired center. The center bar is usually made from nylon webbing wrapped with mohair is this is more hard-wearing and can hold up to the tension of roping. You should never rope out of a cinch with a woven center bar - the two ply mohair cord won't hold up to roping and the D rings will come out over time. You don't need to rope to use a roper cinch - some horses prefer the shape of a cinch with a wide, flaired center.
Cutter cinches:
A double layer cinch that's a bit of a combination of a roper and a straight cinch. Cutters are essentially roper cinches but straight rather than with a flaired center. These usually come in 27, 29, or 31 strands.
